Gli How We Live sono il gruppo in cui militava Steve H prima di unirsi ai Marillion. La canzone che da il titolo all'album è l'unica cover che i Marillion abbiano mai pubblicato su un album ufficiale (Holidays in Eden).
Nel 1985, Steve Hogarth e Colin Woore formarono la loro band chiamata 'How We Live'. Avevano trascorso gli ultimi sei mesi degli ' Europeans ' a comporre insieme, scoprendo di essere complementari uno all'altro. Firmarono per la CBS ed iniziarono a registrare presso gli studi di Peter Gabriel a Bath. La prima canzone, l'autobiografica "Working Town" di Hogarth fu pubblicata come singolo il 7 luglio 1986. L'album "Dry Land", prodotto da David Lord, fu pubblicato nel gennaio del 1987. Conteneva 10 canzoni che spaziavano vari generi. "All Time in the World" fu scelto come singolo successivo. Mancando l'ingresso nelle charts fu ripubblicato, non ottenendo ancora alcun successo. Anche i successivi singoli, "Working Girl" e "Games in Germany" furono ignorati.
